Gorilla Paradise Found

Researchers announced today that deep in the hinterlands of the Republic of the Congo lies a secret ape paradise that is home to 125,000 western lowland gorillas.

Western lowland gorrillas are classified as critically endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). If this finding is confirmed, it would more than double the world's estimated population of the great ape subspecies.

Over the years, Western lowland gorillas have been devastated by illegal hunting for bush meat and the spread of the Ebola virus.
